FINALLY, T.W.O RELEASE DVD FOR 'T.W.O LEGIT'

T.W.O

Foremost Celebrity couple Tunde and Wunmi Obe, a.k.a T.W.O, have finally released their second video compilation.

The videos in the hugely anticipated DVD are from the duo's bestselling fifth album "T.W.O Legit.." which was released in August 2010.

The DVD, which is already circulating nationwide, starts with the witty "Zombie" and "Fine Bara", and steadily ascends to the demonstrative "T.W.O Legit" and "Believe in me".  The colourful "Hit the dance floor" and never before seen "Atewo" also make it on the collection.

"Atewo", pundits say, will be a hit with the fans, even as TV channels across the country are already showing love to the video directed by fast rising Gbenga Salu.

"We got a lot of mails requesting for videos of most of the songs on our 'TWO Legit' album. It's been a few years since we did the last DVD – T.W.O 4 Real, and we hope that fans will  connect with the videos and messages from this one also," Tunde Obe says.

Marketed and distributed by Obaino ventures, the DVD features six songs shot and directed by two notable directors, Clarence A. Peters and Gbenga Salu.

Gbenga, who directed three songs from the compilation – including the newest and must-watch video, "Atewo", says the pair had a genuine connection - "They were very enthusiastic and willing to endure the grueling long hours that it took to shoot the video, with none of them complaining, and this helped me to bring out the best in them. He continues "For Atewo, there is a lot of creative stuff, glamour, dance, fun and expectedly - clapping. There is also a sci-fi twist to the video." Atewo features guest appearances from J Martins and Terry G.

Tunde and Wunmi Obe started out as lead singers in the wildly popular campus band, 'Turning Point' in the late 80's and got popular Nationwide with their hilarious weekly television performance on the Charly Boy Show and Zoom Time.

Over the years, the amiable couple has developed their talents and greatly improved their stage performance through hard work, consistency and flexibility.

"Fans can definitely look forward to some exciting stuff from us next year – A new album, the return of Cupid's Ball and our new TV show,"  Wunmi Obe concludes.

TOSAN SCOTT BRINGS "WAHALA" WITH TERRY THA RAPMAN

The first time Tosan Scott hit Nigeria's music scene was in August 2011, with a song titled "Suga Suga". According to Augusta 'Baby' Benard (CEO of Fluid Entertainment), "the number of downloads recorded on the single was awesome, considering the fact that Tosan was new".

She returned on February 14 (2012) with the video for "Suga Suga" shot by DJ Tee's protege, Lekan aka Unlimited LA... and the response? - Amazing!

Talking about putting in work, Fluid Entertainment went in again with Tosan, employing the magic fingers of ace producer, Samklef to create this new song titled "Wahala" featuring one Nigeria's rap finests - Terry Tha Rapman.

According to Tosan, "Wahala as a song does not necessarily mean I'm troublesome. It simply portrays a hardworking and confident girl who cannot be intimidated by any guy". It's a pop song that specially prepared to appeal across boarders.

Like we have said before, male folks may be ruling Nigeria’s music right now but the girls are not smiling. As content and noise will not stop trending in music, more artists – male and females will keep surfacing.
This young girl may not be your favourite vocalist but her delivery is unique and if she continues like this, she might get a long-term jersey in Nigeria’s music league.

Tosan Scott is from Delta State, Nigeria. She is a former member of a music group in Ghana called ‘RECKLESS DOLLS’ formed in 2010. She left the group this year (2011), to pursue a solo career in her home country. Her kind of music is R&B and Pop but a listen to some of her other songs reveal that she has a thing for Hip hop as well. Her influences include the likes of Pink, Eminem, Lil Wayne, 2Face Idibia, Zeal and Ghanaian singer, Becca.

Fluid Entertainment is owned by Augusta Benard, who many know as 'Baby' of HipTv. Although based in Lagos, the entertainment outfit also runs music business in Ghana and Benin Republic.

NEW MUSIC: "AISHA" BY NPZ FT. DAVIDO

This is a new joint from NPZ titled, "Aisha". It is a song dedicated to strong independent women who know their worth and won’t settle for less.

"I wrote Aisha as a tribute to all the hardworking women in Africa, who have what it takes to hold their own. I kept it light and not too dancy in order to cater to all my fans and a wide-spectrum of music lovers", he says.

Aisha, which features NPZ’s HKN label-mate, Davido; it is expected to be a massive hit and DJs are already queuing up to play the record. Fans may remember, NPZ from hit singles, “African Champion” and “Bad Boy” featuring Davido in 2009, but there is a new twist to this artist’s career.

According to him, "I took some time off recording to tour Asia and some parts of Europe last year. I needed a change of environment and a new direction, so I went around listening to new songs from various cultures and found electro-dance somewhat appealing".

The word out is that NPZ is about to storm Nigeria with a light electro-dance song titled “Shut It Down”.
"Shut it down is a fusion of afropop and light electro-dance. It is relatively new to Africa and I thought I’d give it a go and see how the audience respond to it. It caters to a wide variety of music lovers. I ensured that it did not stray too far from afrobeat as identity and nationalism is extremely important to me".

NPZ releases “Aisha” hit online today, to be followed by “Shut It Down”. Music lovers everywhere will surely bop their heads and shake their feet to these floor-breaking tunes.

IT’S TWO YEARS TODAY... A TRIBUTE TO DAGRIN

Dear Dagrin,

This is two years after, yet it feels like you just paused for a while working on new stuffs to be released soon… maybe today. The tears and pain we felt at the news of your departure still lingers till date, and as much I, as well as other fans and your family pretend like we’ve moved on, we really haven’t. We still drab in our secret chambers; we still discuss about you and the spice you brought with your music. We wish you were here.

Your eventual breakthrough inspired a lot of up and coming artists, and challenged established ones. According to M.I, one of the things that inspired the recording of ‘M.I2’ was – one fateful day, he was passing by and heard a random street boy singing one of your songs word for word…”that was what I wanted for my album. I wanted everybody, including area boys to relate to my music like they did to Dagrin…,” said M.I.

I was awestricken by your humility especially at the time when you were fast becoming one of the most wanted rappers in the industry. You were such a big deal because you were fearless, you were – still is the definition of the street hustler; you also embraced your language and personality through your music.

I still remember the last time I saw you - Wednesday, April 13, 2010 around 3 in the afternoon... that fateful day, I was standing with a friend, Femi 'Maxima' Ogundoro unaware that you were in your newly acquired Nissan Maxima parked in front of Ebony Gym (by Ogundana Street, off Allen, Ikeja). I remember you stepped out of it to say hello… something you didn’t have to do because I couldn’t have thought you were around, let alone in the car. I teased while congratulating you on it I called you a ‘Big Boy’ and you blushed in denial. After the pleasantries, you said you were about leaving for an appointment at somewhere (may be Surulere but I can’t remember) … and that was it.

I know I was not as close to you as your family and most of your other friends but I had a fair share of your niceness and genuine respect. I invited you a friend’s brother’s birthday at Oniru Private Beach and you showed up with Lala and other guys… it was a fun day indeed.

I join hundreds of thousand fans across Nigeria and beyond, to remember and celebrate you today. I’d like to let you know that you will never be forgotten… your pictures, songs and albums are still on my phone/ computer… I’m still and will always be a fan.

Dagrin, joor oh, I can go on and on but I’m emotionally drained, plus these keys and fingers of mine shall fail me eventually. You are a star indeed, a rose that grew out of concrete; a solider – Akogun; Barrack O’ Grin the chosen one… Rest in Peace ma mehn.

HOW DAGRIN DIED?

On April 14, 2010, my colleagues and I got a tip off that Dagrin had a car accident on his way home. We called his manager, Tunde immediately to confirm the story but he said it was just a minor accident; "I was in the car with him and a truck driver mistakenly hit his car and damaged his fender but everything is okay now" he told us. However, rumours describing the magnitude of the accident spread further and this compelled us to pressurize his manager who eventually admitted and confirmed the ghastly accident.

Dagrin was actually alone and on his way home (Sunshine Estate, Oko-oba, Agege), after receiving a call that he had a guest waiting for him. We gathered that he kept calling his house asking them not to lock the gate that he was on his way back. Time check relays that he ran into a stationary truck 2 minutes after the call and this was around 2am, in front of Alakara Police Station, off Agege Motor road, Mushin, Lagos.

Eyewitness revealed that, minutes before the accident, the truck driver who was carrying cement was negotiating a request of N12, 000 by the men of the police force when they heard a loud bang.

Dagrin was initially rushed to Tai Solarin Hospital (Baba Olosha Bus stop, Mushin), but later transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba ICU.

Four days later, we gathered that the rapper had undergone surgery and moved to a private wing of the hospital. In between this time frame, rumours spread that the rapper had died but close friends refuted the information stating individual testimonies of seeing and having a word with him at the hospital. Tunde, his manager also granted an interview on TV, confirming that the young dude was responding to treatment and fast recuperating.

We gathered that the rapper had to be tied later to the bed because he kept making efforts to move, each time he recognized any of his guests.

Crisis started in the early hours of Thursday, April 22 when the rapper went into coma again. His heart reportedly stopped beating later as the doctors ran helter-skelter to revive him. The recuperating machine was used 9 times on him but to no avail. He died.

Dagrin, full name Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun officially started his music career in 2006 with an album titled 'STILL ON THE MATTER'. One of the most popular track off the album was "Rap Rules Anthem" but it was not big enough to register the album as a success.

His sophomore album, 'C.E.O' (Chief Executive Omoita), released in 2009, housed hits like "Pon Pon Pon", "Kondo", "Gboro" and "Ghetto Dreams". This album placed him on the path to the top, as he became one of the hottest and most wanted artists.

STILL ON THE MATTER’ was released on the axis of LEO Entertainment while 'C.E.O' was released on his indie label called Missofunyin Entertainment. He later signed a management contract with Edlyne Records in 2010.

Dagrin died at the age of 26 as confirmed by his father who signed the official press release through Black House Media. He was buried on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Ebony Private Vault, Atan.

MUSIC REVIEW: WHY DO 'GUD GIRLS' LOVE BAD BOYS?

Produced by J Sleek, “Gud Girl” is another result of versatility from the very creative songwriter and musician…also known as Sound Sultan. If you have not heard it at this moment, you have ‘carried last’ already.

This is a Reggae song coated in Pop; I can see the clubs going crazy on this joint already, and it’s dedicated to the girls who the guys will also want to impress by embracing it. The beat is jumpy and the delivery is groovy… there’s a melodic flow on the hook that glues you to the song from start to end. You can tell that even in Sultan’s feel good music, he still pays attention to his musical notes and general composition, which is lacking in a handful of ‘feel good’ music from this side of the world.

“Gud Girl” is an articulate and literal song that talks about a good girl, who loves a bad boy… which also makes me want to ask again – ‘why do good girls like bad boys? I don’t expect the guys to have the right answer, only the girls can tell it better.

You will agree that Sultan is one of the most consistent artists in Africa with five albums: ‘KPSHEEW’ (2009), ‘COMPULSORY TEXTBOOK’ (2006), ‘007’ (2007), ‘SS4’ (2008), ‘BACK FROM THE FUTURE’ (2010) to his credit. He spends most of his idle time writing and creating music, so if he says he’s releasing an album this year, you best believe it. I also won’t be surprised that a video for this song is already in progress.

Meanwhile, I recommend you save a copy of this song on your phones, iPods and computers… just because.

CATEGORIZING eLDee's "CATEGORY"

I thought to delay before posting this song because I wanted you to have listened so you can probably relate better to this short review.

Regular visitors to this blog would have read my thoughts about eLDee and his music and contribution to Nigeria's entertainment industry. My thoughts have not changed - I still think he's one of the most versatile and gifted artists around this town. if I wasn't following his music from the onset, I'd probably say otherwise but this is a dude that holds it an emcee and as a singer, he knows his vocal spot and explores it comfortably.

"Category" is a new single produced by Sarz, off eLDee's upcoming album - 'UNDENIABLE'. I see it as one of his many feel good music but I'm hoping it's not a 'bonus song' as it was tagged in the mail sent to us. Somehow, I feel a bonus song sort of cuts down on it's value or supposed significance. "Category" is a good song and there's no need to label it as a bonus, especially when you're putting it out for an album promotion.

Meanwhile, 'UNDENIABLE' will be eLDee's fifth album, which was originally scheduled for release on March 31, 2012 but has been pushed forward. We hear a new release date will be announced soon.

Do enjoy yet another single from the highly anticipated album to further wet your appetite.

TATTOO ARTISTS COMPETE TO CREATE LIVING WORKS OF ART

MTV Base on DStv Channel 322 is aiming to get under viewers' skin with the series premiere of 'Ink Master' - the first-ever tattoo competition reality series, where ten of the US’s top tattoo artists will go head to head using permanent ink for a $100,000 cash prize, an editorial feature in legendary tattoo magazine 'Inked' and the indelible title of “Ink Master”.

The tension and stakes are high in Ink Master. Every week, the artists face a tough panel made up of series host Dave Navarro, renowned tattoo artists Chris Nunez (Miami Ink) and Oliver Peck (Elm Street Tattoo). Further top names from the tattoo community appear during different challenges as guest judges, including acclaimed artists Scott Campbell and Jack Rudy, Inked magazine creative director Todd Weinberger and celebrity tattoo aficionados NBA player Chris Andersen and Ton Jones (Auction Hunters).

Ink Master contestants will compete in various tattoo challenges that not only test the artists' technical skills, but also their on-the-spot creativity, where they must create and execute an original tattoo on command. Challenges focus on different tattooing techniques, such as shading, line and proportion, and styles including photorealism, Tribal, American traditional, and pin-up.

At the end of the day, the contestants will have to face up to their harshest critics - the people they actually tattoo. These “human canvases” range from tattoo novices to connoisseurs with a full sleeve of body art and even those who want to cover up a prior tattoo mistake. Satisfying the individual whose skin bears the artists' handiwork will also be a major element in determining the winner.

SAD AND HOPEFUL REPORTS FROM 'BREAKFAST PARLOUR' AT OKO-BABA

It was all tears and hope last Sunday April 15 at Oko-baba... Have you ever seen over forty children fight over a pack of Cabin biscuits? Quite unlikely.  This was one of the first sights to welcome ‘The Breakfast Parlour’ crew to The Destitutes’ Home, Oko-baba on Sunday morning.

The next shocker was the announcement of a death to the crew . It probably was not the news of the death of the woman itself that shocked us, but the casualness about the announcement and the fact that nothing seemed amiss initially. From that point however, it occurred to the crew that 'death' lived among these people.

The Destitutes’ Home was built 14 years ago by the Buba Marwa administration to house homeless people; but somehow, many things seem to have gone wrong. They have been abandoned – even though, some of the leaders say the government send in food once in a while. The home is divided into three sections with individual leaders – Blinds, Lepers and Cripples.

These people need more than food. They have no water, they do not have access to free or qualitative health, no drainages (faeces float on the toilet floor and outside while all the water they use in the compound stays in the compound), no counselors (to advise on family planning/hygiene, the importance of education/ the need for the abled bodied ones to earn a living, amongst many other things.

On the brighter side, some of the children attend neighborhood primary schools.  There are also some commercial bike riders, cobblers, tailors, a petty trader and footballers here. It is also worthy to note that despite the harsh conditions, the children are quite smart. Some speak English very well and they sang many popular songs to the crew happily. There is also a building (they call it a school) where some of the kids are taught to read and write once in a while. (Sometimes weekly or monthly, by a man who grew up in the home). Currently, there are about 2,000 people living in the home. The children are estimated to be over 700. They are the Okobaba2000

The Breakfast Parlour crew hopes to create and spread awareness about The Destitutes’ home, Okobaba via blogs, social networks and every available platform till they get an upgrade.

The Breakfast Parlour is an SMG and G Muzik initiative to create awareness about homeless people and their problems. This edition was a joint effort between SMG, G Muzik, Phoenix Osinuga (Rhythm 93.7 OAP), Omalicha Anita Isedeh (Rhythm 93.7 OAP) Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi (The Beat 99.9 OAP), Toolz Tolu Oniru (The Beat 99.9 OAP), Kore Brown (Top Radio 90.9 FM) , Sauce Kid and The Buzz Warehaus.

Here are other pictures from the charity event... Please note that some of the images are quite disturbing.

NEW MUSIC: "AWON BOYZ" - A SHORT REVIEW

Terry Tha Rapman is back again with another single off his upcoming 'World Domination' Mixtape. The song "Awon Boyz" features some of the game's finests - Pherowshuz, Olamide and Vector.

When four emcees converge on a record, you know it's going down for real. You can't miss most of the sick lines emanated on this joint, even if you don't pay attention. Pherowshuz ends his fierce verse with, "...I can kill you with two bars (tubers) - no be yam"...

Olamide is a good rapper but on this joint, I think he got too cocky. Vocals - shouting, not articulate... his verse is like a good gift in a dirty wrap. I understand it's somewhat his style but if you listen to other verses, you'll agree that the contrast from his verse was just off it.

Vector - the viper as he's also called has been impressive since day one and he seem to get iller per song... "Emi ni omo na toh strong, ton speak/awon iyioku dabi Tony, won weak (One week)..."

Terry is undoubtedly one of the timeless veterans of Rap/Hiphop in Nigeria. His flow is signatory, you can't miss him on a song. On this joint, I'll like to say, he played 'Big Bros'... this is probably one of his most literal verse ever. And his words are as simple as said - "...If you're hot, you're hot...if you're not, you're not"

Produced by Illtouch (Pherowshuz), "Awon Boyz" samples items off Olu Maintain, Eedris Abdulkareem, 50 Cent and Notorious B.I.G. The mixtape, 'World Domination' is scheduled to drop on Wednesday, April 18, 2012... look out for it.

SAEON AND FLOWSICK - "LIE".

The first time I heard Saeon (pronounced Sa-yon) was on Youtube... she did a cover of "Ara" by Brymo and I must confess that I was very impressed because she pulled it off perfectly. However, I didn't think that was enough to show what she had inside...it takes more than a cover on another song to prove that you have that talent.

This evening, I came across a mail with her own song titled "Lie" featuring Flowsick. I believe this girl is gon' go far if she maintains and surpass this tempo. She also needs to embrace creativity with an open mind, for those amongst others are the elements that can make her fit in and stand out in this game.

Nuff said - Listen, download and share you thoughts on "Lie" by Saeon featuring Flowsick and produced by Ehi and Teffler.

SKALES JUMPS ON THE BRIDGE… IT’S A “NORMBREAKER”

In June 2011, The Jarmzone shared a song, "Make It Happen" by the duo of Adekunle Kosoko aka 'Adekunle Gold' and his partner, Bakare Michael 'MSBeats' together called - Heavenward Featuring GT The Guitarman. If you have not heard it, then I really think you should, so you can relate and join the train to where these guys are taking their vibe to.

Today, they are simply known as 'The Bridge', and they have a new song titled, "Normbreaker" featuring Skales (from EME). This collaboration was creatively recorded to pass a message to listeners on the need to stand out always. it is an inspirational song produced by Sleekamo... close ears to it will encourage and uplift your spirit.

Without mincing words, I can attest that these guys have surpassed their last effort in many ways. The production was popped a notch up, and the infusion of Rap/Hiphop on this joint through Skales, will attract a wider fan base. The song is timely and it did not lose the contemporary touch that the boys are known for. They are currently working on their first album, which will feature their debut single "Make It Happen"  ft. GT The Guitarman', as well as other collaborations and inspiring music.

The Bridge is made up of Adekunle Kosoko (Adekunle Gold) and Bakare Michael (MSBeats, Seyikeys). They are contemporary Gospel singers with soothing sound, enriched with modern R&B, Hiphop and pop elements. The duo started as members of their church choir (C.A.C, Oke-Itura); by then, they were known as ‘Roots Of Jesse’. They have performed at different concerts, shows and church services. They became ‘Heavenward’ after one of their performances at the Redeemed Christian Church of God. The Area pastor changed their name because according to him, their songs will always remind Christians of the paradise promised by Jesus Christ.

Their music is influenced by the likes of Aaron Neville, Craig David, Brian Adams and R.Kelly. Their lyrical contents are inspired by messages listened to in church, congregational testimonies and general life experiences. Their major goal as singers and songwriters is to encourage young people to establish a personal relationship with God. They have had earlier releases like "Helpless Cry" and "My Home" amongst others. They describe their music as Christian Contemporary/R & B/Soft Rock.

THE JARMZONE'S VIEW ON "MO TI LO" BY RAPPER, A-Q

Here we have "Mo Ti Lo" - a new joint from a fearless emcee by the name - A-Q... and if you don't know him by now, you must be high on "Champagne and Rum".

"Mo Ti Lo" means "I'm Gone" in Yoruba language (Nigeria) but in the context of this song, it means "I'm so gone". It's a brag-song, typical of true emcees.

A-Q goes all out on this joint, flaunting his skills on a groovy coated beat that holds your attention to the very last second. We have to give credit to guy on the hook - BB who's supposed to be a rookie in the business. He comes correct on this E-Twins produced song and delivers at par with the rapper.

A-Q's second album, G.I.L.B.E.R.T is in its final stage and we hear the video for his single "Groovement" shall be released soon to officially roll the carpet for the eventual release of the album.

The best you can do at this point is keep your fingers crossed. Listen, download and leave your thoughts.

REMEMBERING DA'GRIN, THIS APRIL

This April marks the second year anniversary of Dagrin’s death and to commemorate this,  the director of his only solo video, Gini, is set to release an authoritative and informative
documentary of the young rapper’s life.

The clip is over an hour long and combines both known and never-before-seen clips and images of Dagrin. It contains interviews with most of the persons who did not only cross paths with the young act but also contributed to his rise to fame.

It is a real time presentation that paints a perfect HD picture with excellent voice narration and sequencing. The documentary seeks to further promote the works of the late rapper and serve as a reference point for upcoming artists. It also aims to uncover some of the mysteries which have surrounded the rapper's death.

Aptly titled - 'REMEMBERING DAGRIN', it comes from the stable of OMOITA ENTERTAINMENT, an outfit founded by Gini who was much more than just a video director to Dagrin. “We were very good friends and he convinced me on his dreams and plans for his career and the Nigerian entertainment industry. Dagrin had plans of having his own crew made up of young artists like him who are struggling through various adversities to make their voices heard. So OMOITA was created to also enable artists like him realize their dreams and carry on the dreams he had for MISSOFUYIN ENTERTAINMENT”, Gini said.

He also added that the name, 'OMOITA', came from Dagrin who was popularly known as the C.E.O (Chief Executive Omoita) - the title of his 2009 sophomore album which had the hit track, “Pon Pon Pon,” with the video directed by Gini.

“Dagrin made me popular in the industry and I believe I owe him a duty to tell the real story behind some of his struggles that I witnessed. Not many people knew that we were already in the process of shooting the video of “Ghetto Dreams,” featuring Sossick on the day he died.”

Gini whose real name is Abiodun Olayinka is a video director and Film Maker who has done a number of notable works in the entertainment industry. Some of his works include T.Y Bello’s “Greenland,” Mo’ Cheddah’s “Ko Ma Roll”, 9ice’s Loni Ni featuring Dagrin as well as J Martin "Eva" amongst others.

Within this engaging Documentary, OMOITA, the Label is launched. You will also hear The OMOITA ANTHEM and see the various talented artists from New York, London and Lagos that have shown immense interest and support to the Movement.

Jarmzone gathered that the documentary which is not a monetary venture shall be exclusive to Soundcity for a week because it is the only station that played Dagrin's "Pon Pon Pon" video more than any other station in the country. Viewers can catch the exclusive documentary between April 15 and 22.
