BOUQUI UNVEILS KID STARS - TRIPLE J PLUS

Some of you may have been wondering why one of Nigeria’s female rappers, Bouqui has been on the ‘hush’ for a while... The reason is finally coming to fore, starting with the unveil of three talented sisters - Jemima Abel Damina (J.T), Jesimel Precious Abel Damina (J.P) and Jewel Precious Abel Damina (J.J) are together called - Triple J Plus. They are the new kids on the block and they are ready to take the music industry and the entire Nigerian community by storm.

At an exclusive media briefing and buffet held recently to introduce the trio, an excited Bouqui who has been known for her unique brand of gospel and inspirational Hip-Hop stated that “The girls are so talented! There is nothing as fulfilling as finding and nurturing new talents and watching them rise to fame”.

The oldest of the sisters is J.T who was born in 1994. She is an intending freshman at Oral Roberts University, USA and likes dancing cooking and travelling. J.P on the other hand is 15 years old. Her hobbies include; singing, basketball and creative arts. The youngest is 8 years old J.J she likes drawing, making friends and dancing.
BOUQUI took to the sisters after she was floored by their raw talent, energy, passion and dedication. Her involvement in this project will be no surprise to her long time fans who has known the rapper for dipping her feet in new territories and immersing herself in new challenges. As a young child she discovered her passion for music and in her teens formed the all female group, G-VIBES. She also branched into broadcasting by presenting on Eko FM.

Two years after the release of her first album, Bouqui released her sophomore album ‘REDEFINITION’ which further strengthened her as one of the most bankable female acts in Nigeria’s Entertainment industry. Her first single “Mo Ri Le” was an instant hit which was followed up by another successful single “Take You Away”. An energetic live performer, the rapper went on the road and toured extensively in the UK, US and Nigeria in 2009 and the better half of 2010.

Now, she’s taking time off her busy schedule to give Nigerians a worthy gift - Three amazing gifted sisters for the prize of one. Born and raised in Uyo, Nigeria. Triple J Plus have known music for a long time and are usually of the notion that music for them is inbuilt. “We have known music for as long as we can recall, but it officially took its shape and call last year” J.T, 16 says JP adds “We were a part of a music competition organized by AKBC in Uyo three years ago, where we came 4th. We are sure our music will cut across the younger generation as we pass across message that they can relate to”.

Interestingly, the youngest of the trio Jewel was before now already “popular”... How? - Two years ago, she was kidnapped by militants on her way to school (on Thursday June 19, 2008). They kept her for eight days, and finally released her after government’s intervention.

“It was a really terrible experience” The soft spoken 8 year old says. But her sisters say the family has put the event behind them.

Triple J Plus are Nigeria’s freshest and hottest music talents, coming out with a loud bang and enough force to grab a slot on the charts, and a residency in our hearts!

NIGERIAN IDOL: 50 CONTESTANTS SENT HOME

Many are called, few are chosen. Read on….

“Are you all packed and ready? Because you are all going home” Judge Audu Maikori says to contestants in room 4….after a long pause he adds “But not today”.

The joy and tears that filled the room afterwards knew no bounds. Contestants have been busy singing in duos and trios for two days, and to hear that they were leaving was the last thing on their mind. But then, 50 hopefuls had to leave. One contestant that caught a lot of attention is Jennifer Ijeoma Ekenma, (contestant 1251) from Enugu. She left Enugu weeks back with hope, toasting and drinking with friends who were almost sure that she will return home with the grand prize. All hopes were dashed when Jeffery Daniel announced that everyone in her room was leaving. However, Mr. Maikori had stated earlier “The fact that you are evicted doesn’t make it the end of the world; we’d still meet at BET or the Grammy’s”. Checking the reason for the various evictions, contestants forgot their lines against Jeffery Daniel’s initial insistence that forgetting your lines could lead to eviction while others didn’t perform as impressively as the others.

Two contestants who the judges couldn’t help but give thumbs up were contestants 2123 - Ajumoke and Toni who have before now released singles in the Nigerian market. Viewers were quite shocked to see Ajumoke - member of Diamonds band (Winners of 2008 Star Quest) in the Competition. Although she has not made it public, it appears the young talent is ready to go solo.

Oluwatoni Afolayan whom we have all come to know as Toni started singing in the church, but became an active actor in the industry in 2008. The unsigned young lady made a lot of buzz with her single “Silateya” in 2008. Toni and Ajumoke belong to different groups that made it to the next round.

Out of thousands that auditioned for Idols, there are now 50 talents left as the show moves from preliminaries into a critical phase.

Since Nigerian Idol debuted on TV on Sunday November 21, 2010, viewers across Nigeria, UK and USA have been treated to the highs and lows of hopefuls who trooped out to audition for the music reality show. It’s been a roller coaster, some contestants have cried after being rejected by judges, some have taken rejection with a pinch of salt, others have even lied that they were going to the dream studios when the reverse was the case - one particular contestant even ran away from the camera after being rejected, and then others have been given the much desired Golden ticket.

Last week, 100 contestants were trimmed down to 50, and in the weeks to come, producers of the show have stated that every week, the contestants will appear in groups of 10. The general public will be given the privilege to vote, and then the two contestants with the highest votes get to go on to the next level while eight wannabes go home each week. “It’s getting tougher, the contestants are really talented, and having to see eight of them go every week is really disheartening, but the format has to be followed” Lillias Bode Producer of the show says.

With the top 50 contestants ready to slug it out for the grand prize, Adaora Mbelu, Communications Manager at OMG educates us more “At this point, the judges no longer make the decision, the viewers will take over and participation will be through voting”.

Sponsored by Etisalat in association with Royal Exchange and Pepsi, the journey to discovering Nigerian Idol will take the mould of the original Pop Idol. Host Misi and Anis will take TV viewers through the auditions, the theatre episodes, group workshop episodes all the way to the live shows.

The Idols TV series was first created by Freemantle media UK as Pop Idol, but in recent times it has been simply referred to world-wide as IDOLS. And just like the original show, Nigerian Idol aims to seek out the next solo super star and offer one young hopeful talent a life changing opportunity.

The stiff competition this year began with a hundred contestants slugging it out for a grand prize of 7.5 Million Naira and a record deal with Sony BMG.

DAREY DROPS TWO HOT SINGLES! + SCOOP FROM HIS UPCOMING DOUBLE ALBUM

After the success of the first two singles off Darey’s new album “The Way You are” and “Don’t let me know,” your boy raises the bar, tempo and temperature with this new heavy party tune.

The song which features Darey flowing in Hausa is aptly titled “Ba Ni Kidi,” which in English means “Give Me The Beat.” Cobhams definitely goes places he’s never gone before on “Ba Ni Kidi,” producing some next level Spine-tapping Euro-styled Pop Club Banger, laced with some traditional Hausa style melodies with additional production input from eLDee the Don and Darey.

He's also thrown in a mature and romantic mid-tempo classic ,"Sisi Eko" dedicated to everyone who has ever made a sacrifice for love! Produced by Cobhams and Darey himself, Sisi Eko is a sure favourite for the matured mind.

Comic video of "Bani Kidi" is available on www.dareyonline.com.

RAY G AND HIS ‘UNXPECTED’ ALBUM

"I see myself on top and also as one that would be reckoned with in Nigeria's entertainment industry; I will also be a big helping hand to the upcoming artistes in Nigeria"... These are the words of UWOLOH NWABUEZE RAYMOND a.k.a Ray G whose second album titled ‘UNXPECTED’ is expected to hit music stores this December 4. His hot single, “Otutu” featuring W4 and Jaywon got impressive feedback and the video shot by AK One, made major chart-lists across the country.

Ray G’s debut album titled ‘TOGO NAIJA’ may not have given him expected attention in Nigeria but his collaboration with Ghanaian act, Tinny on “It’s A Party” and the video made him popular in Ghana and Togo where he performed at various shows in those countries.

This time, the graduate of Business Administration from Lagos State University indulges outstanding acts like Timaya, Sound Sultan, W4, Tamara (from Naija Sings) and Jaywon amongst others to make an album, music lovers would appreciate. According to him, “I intend to reach out to all classes in Nigeria including the market women, bus drivers, the working class etc as well as Africa and the world at large”.

The ‘UNXPECTED’ is a 15 track package with songs like “Spend My Money” featuring Timaya, “Sile Sile” featuring W4 and productions by Jiggy Jeg, Spanky, J Sleek and Micon. Two events have been scheduled to usher in the album – the first part holds in Lagos at Club Karma on Friday December 10, while the second part will hold on Friday December 17 at E-Lounge, Abuja.

Ray G started music in 1994 while in secondary school. He is presently signed to Warlor Records which is owned by his brother, Peter Uwoloh who also doubles as his mentor. “He has been very supportive and an encouragement to my music career” he said. The album will be marketed and distributed by Afro Best.
